Symphony Orchestra
The Orchestra was founded in 1929 in
Kiev.
M. Kanershtein was one of its organizers and its
first conductor. Some of the orchestra members
have been prominent cultural personalities, such
as P. Rkhlin, I. Payin, O. Klimov, and others. V.
Gnedash, honored Artist of the Ukraine, was the
orchestra's conductor for many years.
The orchestra has been very instrumental in
preserving the musical tradition in the Ukraine
and Eastern Europe in general. Its archives total
over 10,000 recordings of symphonic works and
features the music of many Eastern European
composers and others.
Presently, the orchestra is lead by the young
conductor Vladimir Sirenko and has recorded many
compact disc albums and film soundtracks.
